Peter is a barrister in private practice, appearing and advising predominantly in commercial, constitutional and appellate matters throughout Australia.

He was admitted as a barrister in 1992 and for 18 months prior to that worked at the Brisbane law firm Morris Fletcher & Cross (now Minter Ellison). Peter took silk in 2005 and was the Solicitor-General for Queensland between 2014 and 2019.

Peter has been the President of the Australian Bar Association since 2022.
